Speak New York is built as an account-free, local-first English learning app. This policy explains what information is stored on your device, what may be processed by platform services, and how Firebase, RevenueCat, and Sentry help operate the app.
Speak New York teaches practical English through lessons, City Feed posts, Taxi Cards, offline downloads, reminders, and progress rewards. The app does not require a Speak New York account for the current iOS experience.
The exact data involved depends on how you use the app, whether you contact support, and whether you make a purchase. The table below is written to match the current iOS App Store privacy posture.
| Data Category | Examples | Purpose | Linked to You |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name | A name you include in a support message or purchase-related platform record. | App functionality, support, and purchase assistance. | May be linked when you provide it or when a platform service provides it. |
| Email Address | Your email address if you contact support or if needed for purchase support through platform records. | Responding to support, purchase questions, privacy requests, and legal notices. | May be linked when you provide it or when a platform service provides it. |
| User ID | Anonymous installation, entitlement, analytics, diagnostics, or vendor identifiers used by Firebase, RevenueCat, Sentry, or the App Store. | App functionality, entitlement checks, analytics, diagnostics, fraud prevention, and service reliability. | Yes, where the provider treats the identifier as linked to a user or installation. |
| Purchase History | Subscription status, restore state, Pro entitlement, product ID, transaction state, renewal state, or purchase receipt information. | Providing paid access, restoring purchases, preventing duplicate purchases, and resolving billing support issues. | Yes, through the App Store and RevenueCat entitlement systems. |
| Other Usage Data | App events such as lesson starts, lesson completions, onboarding steps, paywall views, feature usage, and non-sensitive interaction counts. | Analytics, product quality, content improvement, and reliability monitoring. | Yes, through analytics identifiers used by Firebase and related tooling. |
| Other Diagnostic Data | Crash reports, error logs, performance signals, device and app version context, and non-fatal diagnostic events. | Finding crashes, fixing bugs, preventing startup failures, and improving app stability. | Yes, through Firebase and Sentry diagnostics identifiers. |
Speak New York keeps the core learning experience local. The following data is stored on your device unless a platform service is needed to operate a feature:
You can clear local learning data from the app's Profile reset action. Deleting the app may also remove local app data from the device, subject to iOS behavior and device backups.
Speak New York uses third-party services to operate purchases, remote configuration, analytics, diagnostics, storage, and app distribution. These providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies.
Firebase supports analytics, crash reporting, remote configuration, storage, Firestore-backed content workflows, and App Check. Firebase helps keep the app usable while monitoring reliability and content delivery.
RevenueCat helps manage Pro entitlements, product offerings, purchase status, restore behavior, and subscription access based on App Store purchase information.
Sentry receives diagnostic events, crash context, app version information, and related reliability data so we can investigate errors and fix production issues.
The App Store processes downloads, in-app purchases, subscriptions, renewals, refunds, family sharing eligibility, and subscription management.
We may also use secure hosting and developer tools to publish support pages, product information, documentation, and static assets.
We share data only as needed to operate Speak New York, comply with law, protect rights and safety, process purchases, provide support, diagnose issues, or work with service providers. Service providers may process data on our behalf and may also process certain data under their own roles depending on their service terms.
If Speak New York is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or asset transfer, relevant information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy or a successor policy.
Local learning data remains on your device until you reset it, delete the app, or iOS removes it. Support emails are retained as long as needed to respond, keep support history, comply with legal obligations, and protect the app. Analytics, diagnostics, purchase, and entitlement records are retained according to the settings and retention rules of Firebase, RevenueCat, Sentry, Apple, and our operational needs.
Some requests may require verification. We may retain information when required for legal, security, fraud prevention, accounting, App Store, or dispute-resolution reasons.
Speak New York and its service providers may process information in the United States, European Economic Area, and other countries where our providers operate. Privacy laws may differ between countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate legal bases such as providing the app, fulfilling purchases, legitimate interests in product safety and reliability, consent where applicable, and legal obligations.
Speak New York is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child provided personal information through support or another channel, contact us and we will review the request.
We may update this Privacy Policy when the app, services, legal requirements, or App Store privacy disclosures change. The updated date at the top of the page shows when this policy was last revised. Material changes may also be reflected in the app or App Store metadata when appropriate.
